Heidi recreated the 1847 Veiled Vestal sculpture by Raffaelle Monti for her Met Gala outfit.
Whenever Halloween rolls around, we know we can count on Heidi Klum to deliver. But she’s not just the reigning Hallo-queen; the model proved that she can literally wear multiple hats for different high-profile events, including the Met Gala. For this year’s Costume Institute fundraiser, Heidi recreated the Veiled Vestal, an 1847 sculpture by Raffaelle Monti.
“I was like, I want to become her!” Heidi said in a red carpet interview. “I went walking around in the Met and Raffaele Monti, he’s done most of the sculptures from the 1800s, so I looked and I was like, ‘Wow, this is so beautiful. The drape, and it’s all in marble, but how can you make that with fabric?’”

Heidi became the life-sized version of Monti’s Veiled Vestal statue, looking nearly identical to the marble fixture from the Met.
Her team placed her in a form-fitting material that gave the illusion of the sculpture. Her floral headpiece looked like an exact replica of the statue, and the silhouette of her costume featured the texture that onlookers noticed.
Heidi even wore gray contacts and painted her skin to embody the Veiled Vestal.
